At Market 96, a Black-owned and operated social equity dispensary under Blounts & Moore, we honor this significant day by reflecting on our shared history and taking meaningful actions to support our community. Here’s why you should visit us on Juneteenth and how your support can make a difference.
Celebrating Freedom and Resilience
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and represents a pivotal moment in American history. It is a day to acknowledge the struggles and achievements of those who came before us, and to celebrate the progress we’ve made while recognizing the work that still needs to be done. At Market 96, we are deeply connected to this history and committed to continuing the fight for justice and equity.

Promoting Social Equity in Cannabis

By supporting our dispensary, you are contributing to the broader movement for social equity in the cannabis industry. Your patronage helps us continue to advocate for fair policies and provide opportunities for those most impacted by cannabis prohibition.
Market 96 and Blounts & Moore Story
Market 96 is proud to be part of Blounts & Moore, a venture that began on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, in April 2019. A group of accomplished Black women, including the Blount and Moore sisters, gathered to discuss economic empowerment, health and wellness, and giving back to the community. Inspired by these discussions and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, they ventured into the cannabis industry.
Attorney Sherri Blount, a co-founder of a medical cannabis dispensary in Washington, DC, shared her experiences and industry insights, which intrigued the group. After months of research and planning, nine women emerged ready to pursue cannabis-related business ventures. They immersed themselves in best practices for cultivation, manufacturing, and retail, and explored various investment opportunities.
By December 2019, with a solid business strategy, Blounts & Moore committed to pursuing vertically integrated opportunities in states with limited licenses. They successfully filed applications and won licenses in Illinois, Virginia, and Arizona, becoming a significant player in the cannabis industry.
Market 96 pays homage to the 1996 medical legalization movement in California, a pivotal year that underscored the therapeutic potential of cannabis. This advocacy not only helped countless patients but also laid the groundwork for broader acceptance and legalization of medical cannabis. Our commitment to social equity and community empowerment stems from this rich history and drives our mission to create a just and inclusive cannabis industry.
